A privileged space for science, CosmoCaixa offers more than 30,000 m2 dedicated to discovering science of the world around us.

Housed in a modernista building designed and built between 1904 - 1909 by Josep Domènech i Estapà, CosmoCaixa takes visitors on a journey through the earth's ecosystems, different geological structures, space and time. Dedicated to scientific outreach and family leisure, CosmoCaixa offers unique exhibition spaces as well as interactive workshops and activities for all ages.

Journey into the Flooded Forest exhibition which recreates an Amazonian rainforest ecosystem featuring piranhas, crocodiles and other native plant and animal species.

Explore the Geological Wall, an exhibition of seven spectacular rock sections, illustrating the world's different geological structures.

Take a trip through space and time at the Planetarium, where you can learn about our solar system, stars and planets, as well as the wider universe. 

From hands-on activities and the Bubble Planetarium to workships for the whole family, CosmoCaixa is a fun day out for families of all ages.

Did You Know?

  • There are over 3000 known species of fish living in the Amazon River, with more being discovered
  • The world's largest documentated earthquake occurred on 22 May 1960 in Southern Chile, it measured a magnitude of 9.5 on the Richter Scale.
  • The historic part of the building housing CosmoCaixa was initially used as housing for blind girls after completion in 1909.
